If you are in the auto parts business chances are you’re seeing a nice little spike in business. People aren’t going out to buy that brand new luxury sedan these days when their engine goes out. Instead their out looking for cheap engines for sale. The word that needs emphasis is “CHEAP”. Recyclers are loving it, and remanufacturers are hating it.

I think we all know that a remanufactured engine is the wise choice when looking for quality, and usually people are willing to pay for quality, but the parts industry is following suit right along with cars for sale. Right now people aren’t buying new cars, they’re buying used cars. The same goes for engines. People aren’t buying new engines, they’re buying used engines. Quality has become less important these days. People would rather buy something used and take their chances then buy something that costs more that will run for years.

So the question we’re often asked is, “Has auto parts increased in business?”. Well, the answer is yes. In fact Got Engines Inc. has doubled their sales since last year, remaining one of the largest engine sellers in the USA. What we have seen happen is a major drop in our remanufactured engines. Personally, we’d rather sell a remanufactured engine any day over a used engine. Not because we make more money, because a lot times we make less, but because there is always a risk when buying a used part, even if it was properly inspected.

I’m not really sure where our industry is headed, but what I can tell you is the major remanufacturing companies are now getting into used parts to make up for their losses. My guess is we’ll continue to see a spike through 2013, and along the way we’ll continue to see our customers look for the most affordable engines they can find, worrying less about quality. While we can’t agree this is the best idea for our customers, we also have to respect that people are strapped for cash these days. So we’ll continue to meet their needs by performing the best testing possible and delivering the highest used quality available.
