Accidents From Cell Phones and Make Up
Cell phones are the cause of 2,600 deaths and about 330,000 injuries in the U. S. annually, according to the journal’s publisher, the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society.
This really doesn’t surprise me with all the calls GotEngines.com gets about how the car was wrecked from the other driver talking on his cell phone. We had several people tell us how the daughter wrecked the car putting her make-up on while driving.
I feel like people are getting more and more careless everyday about being safe drivers. We sell used engines, so I can’t imagine how many calls a company that sells bumpers gets like this every week.
I think people should have to take driving safety awareness tests every couple years or so. I get so frustrated when I sitting behind a car at a green light because they are too busy talking on their phone. Or they come close to running into me because they are too busy texting their friend about what they ate for lunch.
I think more states should start enforcing the driving while talking on a cell phone law. It saves lives and prevents injuries. The figures above are from 2003. I’d have to guess there are probably a half of million injuries a year by now with all the texting these days.
